3. Social Media Hashtags Guidelines – For Equitable Users’ Experiences
In PCMA, we share important information across social media, every day. Belonging to an industry committed to delivering a positive impact, we would like to let everyone — regardless of age, ability or means of access — be in-the-know and part of the conversation.
Please see below some tips for the use of the hashtags on your social media channels:
Capitalise the first letter of each word – WHY?
Capitalising the first letter of each word in a hashtag helps screen readers recognise separate words, making the text more accessible for visually impaired users. It also improves readability for anyone who may struggle to identify word boundaries, such as those with dyslexia or cognitive disabilities.
For example: #eventprofs is not as easy to read as #EventProfs
See some examples for the EMEA region that should be used: #ConveningEMEA #PCMAEMEA #EventsProfs
Alternative Text
Include descriptive alt-text with your images so screen reader users can understand your visual content. Without alt-text, they miss out on the image’s meaning or function.
How to Add Alt-Text on LinkedIn
- After adding a photo, select “Add alt text” on mobile or “Alt. text” on desktop.
- Enter your image description and click Done.
